Chapter 14 describes EZ models, in which parameters are estimated from response time means and variances without fitting the models to data, models of multialternative decisions, as arise in value-based decision tasks, and expanded judgment tasks, in which decisions are made about sequences of noisy stimulus elements. The chapter presents the EZ models of two-choice and continuous-outcome decisions and gives derivations of the response time mean and variance for both kinds of decision. It discusses the decision field theory of value-based decisions and its extensions to time-varying and multialternative decisions. It provides an analysis of multivariate optimality and conditions under which such optimality is implemented by diffusion models. It discusses models for expanded judgment tasks in which evidence entering the decision process is lost and emphasizes the role of memory processes in information loss, which may affect the shapes of response time distributions. It highlights the similarities and differences between one-shot decision tasks, in which the noise driving the decision process is internal, and expanded judgment tasks, in which the noise is external, and cautions against assuming the same models apply in both kinds of tasks.
