Adhesive and quasiadhesive categories

Abstract

We introduce adhesive categories, which arecategories with structure ensuring that pushouts along monomorphismsare well-behaved, as well as quasiadhesive categories whichrestrict attention to regular monomorphisms.Many examples of graphical structures used in computerscience are shown to be examples of adhesive and quasiadhesivecategories. Double-pushout graph rewriting generalizes well torewriting on arbitrary adhesive and quasiadhesive categories.
